Drowning victim identified by Anderson authorities

STORY TOOLS

— Don McCown, Anderson County Deputy Coroner, said Monday that a body found on the Greenville County bank of the Saluda River was that of Gregory Lane Allen, 46, also know as Michael Russell.

McCown said Allen was identified by fingerprints but had been using the alias of Russell for several years.

McCown said there was some evidence that Allen might have been wanted in other states.

Allen had been missing since Wednesday.

Friends said he had lived on the riverbank for some time. His truck was found along with his dog.

McCown said the cause of death was accidental drowning with no other injuries. He also said that drugs and alcohol in Allen’s system were factors in the death.

McCown said friends told him Allen could have waded into the water to unhook his fishing line.

Allen disappeared Wednesday while fishing on the bank and, according to McCown, left his wallet and shirt on the river’s bank before entering the water.

McCown said alcohol and drugs are considered a factor in Allen’s death, which was ruled an accidental drowning. There was no trauma found to have occurred to Allen’s body.

Allen was found on the Greenville County side of the bank of the Saluda River near the dam, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Divers and searchers looked throughout the weekend for the man.

Fox and WYFF4 news said the guy's name is Mike Russell but here it says Mike Richards.

They changed it. Seems to be a common action on the site. Print a story then make a change.
