Son bashes father in Williamston dispute over money for mother

STORY TOOLS

Anderson County sheriff’s deputies said a 62-year-old Williamston man suffered scratches to his back and leg, reportedly from a metal pipe in the hands of his 32-year-old son, who was fighting to collect a debt for his mom.

The incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the family’s home on Wateree Lane.

An investigation has been opened after deputies were given a statement about the alleged attack.

The father’s wife and mother of the accused provided a written version, “which somewhat contradicts” the father’s account, Deputy J.J. Jacobs wrote in the police report.

According to the report, two men, including the Williamston father’s 58-year-old brother, were attempting to help the man move from his home when the son arrived and an argument erupted over money.

The son, armed with a metal pipe, approached his father, cursing and threatening, according to the report.

The father grabbed a .45-caliber pistol, pointing it at his son, who threw the pipe and hit his uncle in the head before pushing his father to the ground in a struggle for the pistol, Jacobs said in the report.

The son, who left with his mother, had not been located as of Friday afternoon, according to officials.
