Search warrant breaks up drug ring in Anderson neighborhood

A search warrant executed Thursday night by members of Anderson’s SWAT team and narcotics officers resulted in three arrests and charges for distributing marijuana and trafficking crack cocaine.

The amount of drugs seized was not immediately known Friday morning.

The search took place on K Street.

Serene Cynthia Cowans, 49, of the 300 K Street address that was raided, was charged with conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, operating a drug house as well as three counts of writing checks on a closed account, forgery of a $3,700 check and was served with a bench warrant for failing to pay a $465 fine in May for disorderly conduct.

Two other arrests were made in Cowans’ house.

Police charged David Mario Johnson, 27, of Camden Drive with trafficking crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within close proximity to a school or park, possession with intent to distribute marijuana within close proximity of a school or park, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and prowling.

Jervon Quantez Martin, 19, of Auburn Avenue was charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of crack cocaine within close proximity of a school or park.

Judge Ken Mattison ordered $25,000 property bonds each for Martin and Johnson. Cowans, a home health worker in Greenville, was allowed to sign a $15,000 bond.
