ANDERSON Two Anderson men got a choice of paying their fines by the week or going to jail after one was found passed out on a public bench and the other endangered his life on a city street.
Robert Harrison, 45, of Gantt Avenue and Larry Fant, 47, of Shamrock Lane were arrested Tuesday. Harrison was arrested at 11:30 a.m. outside Thomas Food Mart on Tribble Street, passed out on a bench. Officer Mark Miller said a broken bottle of beer and a partially-consumed bottle were nearby.
Officer Brandon Surratt said Fant was arrested about 2:30 p.m. at Franklin and Fant streets after seeing Fant fall “into oncoming traffic, almost getting struck by a vehicle.”
Wednesday, Anderson Municipal Court Judge Ken Mattison accepted each man’s guilty pleas. Harrison was ordered to pay fines of $525 at $50 a week or spend 40 days in jail for public intoxication and having an open container.
Fant was ordered to pay a fine of $262.50 at $50 a week or spend 20 days in jail for public intoxication.
Mattison said each man would be subject to arrest and additional fines or jail time if they fail to make their payments.
