Two Anderson County Sheriff's deputies arrested

STORY TOOLS

— South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division agents have charged two Anderson County sheriff’s deputies with misconduct in office and obtaining money under false pretenses.

Lawyer Delewis Scott II, 35, of 1103 Lee Drive in Anderson and Derrick Lamont Rich, 36, of 146 Hudson Circle in Anderson are accused of falsifying timesheets for themselves and others while working as officers on campuses in Anderson School District 5.

Arrest warrants indicate allegations that between April 30, 2007, and April 30, 2008, Scott stole $144 from the school district while Rich obtained $648.

Susann Griffin, spokeswoman for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, said the men were longtime employees of the sheriff’s office. Scott worked as the school resource officer at T.L. Hanna High School and Rich was the school resource office at Westside High School. Both were terminated from their jobs on Friday.

SLED agents started their investigation May 2 at the request of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. Griffin said Sheriff David Crenshaw received information that he passed on to SLED since it would be a conflict of interest to investigate his employees.

Scott and Rich each posted a $6,000 personal recognizance bond and had been released from the Anderson County Detention Center as of late Friday. Neither could be reached by phone for comment on Friday evening.

Anderson School District 5 officials could not be reached for comment Friday either.

Both high schools were assigned new school resource officers in May, when the investigation first started.

WELL NOW NOW......SHERIFF CRENSHAW? THE GOOD OL' BOYS DIDN'T DO SUCH A THING BACK IN THE GOOD OL' DAYS.......THIS IS WHY WE NEED A NEW SHERIFF - BARNEY HAS DONE IT AGAIN!! DOG GONE IT BARNEY!

Again, you uninformed idiot... Rich and Scott worked under the past two administrations, All Crenshaw did was bring in SLED, as he should have, to investigate. Leave Crenshaw alone

Crenshaw did exactly what he should have by calling in sled. This way there was no room for favortism or conflict of interest. He had no control over what they were doing, but when he found out he handled the situtation the way he was supposed to. Way to go Crenshaw! Sorry you couldn't serve 4 more years!

Sounds like a textboot way to investigate a crime, since the resourse officers are who they are, this had to be handled with the upmost discretion. David was wise and correct to turn this investigation over to SLED. As a small business owner, I appreciate the job David did as sheriff. Response time was down and I received numerious security checks, which I had never received, during his time in office.

this is just a way for the sheriff to look good...the amount of money is ludicres....these officers go way out of there way every day without pay to help and protect our children. these 2 officers are 2 of the best and will be wanted by any office that has sence! acsd should have a bag on their head over this one!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like softballgirl needs to have more practice with grammar and spelling. Didn't make it to first base; hit a foul ball on this one on two fronts.

in response to The_Shark

Good one guy. I don't know if that was a Freudian slip or if you meant it. I guess they would be the two thieves on each side of Christ.

You are also correct in that it isn't the amount it is the intent. Just as people are continuously crowing that they think the concerns about Joey Preston represent peanuts. If it were only peanuts (which it isn't) it is the intent and the character of the person holding such enormous responsibility for our future that we cannot afford any kind of "shady" activity from. It is about the general mindset of someone, if they are "shady" in small things, what is to stop them from being "shady" in large things. If the willingness is there, then it just becomes a matter of degrees and what they think they can get away with.

Your character is reflected in the little things in life.

cwilson4....
I do hope you will find happiness some day. You are a real sourpuss and you always seem be sad and/or angry about everything. Maybe you would be less depressed if you stop listening to rick is wrong every day.
Maybe when Broadway Lake gets the community center, you can go there and have fun.

I am former law enforcement and served in the Army as a Military Police. I applaud the hard work most of our officers do for South Carolina. Yet no misconduct should be allowed by law enforcement. They should set the best example. Recently misconduct has been investigated in the Highway Patrol, some local police departments and even S.L.E.D itself. One of the Problems is that there is no way of directly contacting an agency that can really investigate misconduct on a state level that is accountable directly to the citicens. You can file reports with local law enforcement and ask that they inform S.L.E.D. You can inform Mayors, City Council members, County Council members. You can contact your local South Carolina State Representatives and Senators. You can contact the Governor's Office. You can also contact the Attorney General's Office of South Carolina and ask for the Victim's Advocate. Then on the federal level you can contact the F.B.I. and the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. Also you can follow up with writing your U.S. Congress delegates and Senators. I feel the need for a new agency that is directly responsible to the public for investigating misconduct in South Carolina. I think and elected Constable's Office or an investigative body whose head is directly elected by the public is needed. I am contacting my elected officials on this issue and I encourage others to do so. God Bless South Carolina and the United States of America

The sad thing is that so many kids looked up to these 2 officers. How sad - especially for their families.

no surprise here- from what i have heard , Officer Rich was nothing more than a bully. He used his position to threaten and frighten the students he was supposedly there to protect and help.

But according to the way some feel cops,,, don't lie, cheat or steal. And when they do , it's okay because "they put their life on the line for us". Well there are other cops who also put their lives on the line and so do many other hard working tax payers. So these guys not only stole the average citizen,,, they stole from fellow officers. How's that for brotherhood? They should be treated like any other theif.

Glad to see their little acts are not being covered

Scratch, good lord, do you want me to read all of those comments? If they stole, they need to roll. I absolutely hate a thief, be it a dollar or whatever. It is so stupid but it goes on every day. Why? Because there is practically no punishment for it. btw, I don't mind typo's and misspelled words, if the first and last letter are there, I can read it. OK?

Lawyer Delewis Scott II,is Lawyer his name?In Belton man named Alderman Maynard, were they looking at the city council meeting minutes when he was born?

WOW! Who can you trust now a days? I feel sorry for the families of these two former officers. They were caught and need to face the judge. I hope they do not get hired as police officers buy an Agency that might think what they did was ok or not too bad, Scary...I agree, typos are ok and misspelled words are a given. David Crenshaw did the right thing. I cannot believe it took TWO MONTHS to check this out. You either lied about your time or you did not. Look at the resources it took to play this thing out. No telling how many employees, phone calls, overtime (you know every invest has overtime built into it) and it is still not over, court time attorneys fees, on and on and on.

in response to consitor_veritas

LOL and ROFLMAO...... hahahahahahahahahaha.....so funny

in response to consitor_veritas

I prefer the webster's dictionary-

big·ot [ bíggət ] (plural big·ots)

noun

Definition:

intolerant person: somebody with strong opinions, especially on politics, religion, or ethnicity, who refuses to accept different views

For the person that made the comment about Fusion Warehouse...this organization is a BIG fake anyway...you would be surprised at what goes on there!!!!! They aren't CHRISTIAN...as they claim to be!!

in response to pink_panther

And let me guess where you might live...

I want to know what the REAL STORY is behind this. Why weren't they simply fired and told to repay the money, or given a warning? Why spend all of our tax dollars to uncover a whopping $792 in over a year's time. I was expecting thousands of dollars. Give me a break! That's 2.16 cents per day. Who hasn't left work 5 minutes early, or better yet been 5- 10 minutes late and weren't docked for it. Where are the other officers they falsified timesheets for? Sounds fishy to me. I feel there is something deeper to this story and it could've been handled better.

in response to newlife

I'm curious. Care to elaborate?

in response to Scrotch

Excuse me... I didn't call you a name. You gave yourself this name. Not my fault you didn't research it's meaning first. And I think it's funny. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. HA! How is that prejudice? Maybe you need to look up prejudice in a dictionary.

PS.... oink-oink,,, squeeeel!

in response to Scrotch

My apoligies.... I honestly thought that you made up "Scrotch".... as most of us have made up usernames.....my name isn't lynfo25...lol. And to say what you said about changing....blah, blah, blah.... It's easier to change a name,,,happens all the time. But I have yet to see one change their race. Mocking someones name is totally different than mocking someones race.....I said nothing or did nothing near that. You on the other hand have. My black husband cannot change his race. What an ignorant suggestion. But of course I should have expected as much from you. I have seen your comments.

in response to Scrotch

What I did does not fit the definition of prejudice... I went to a link that gave a definition of a word (scrotch) which I happen to think is funny. So I did examine facts before I laughed,,, I wasn't judging you just laughing at the definition of "scrotch".

Definitions of 'prejudice' (prĕj́ə-dĭs) - 6 definitions - The American Heritage® Dictionary

prejudice

(n.) An adverse judgment or opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge or examination of the facts.
prejudice (n.) The act or state of holding unreasonable preconceived judgments or convictions. See synonyms at predilection
prejudice (v.) To cause (someone) to judge prematurely and irrationally. See synonyms at bias

in response to Scrotch

My name is not reflective of my ethinic background... I was named after my cousin and a missionary who is a totaly different race from me. And if you are trying to get tecnical,,,, black is a color not a race. So to say that the definition of black is and I quote "lips and hair" is just plain ignorant. Everything you have stated is nothing more than racial epithets.... A name is a name and they all have different meanings calling someone some of these names are hurtful because of their meanings. Your name had nothing racial or hurtful in it's definition... it was just funny. however the defintion of junglebunny is very racist and not funny at all. You are a sad, sad case if you truly believe that us laughing at what "scrotch" means and what you have said are anywhere close to the same. I will not be indulging your ignorant comments anymore,,, it's useless to try to have you understand the difference. I did apoligize for not knowing this was your true name. However you just keep criticizing the race of my husband (who by the way you don't know either). I did not criticize you or your name,,, I only laughed at the definition. If the definition was about making fun of ones race,,,, I would not have found it funny. But evidently you find the "black" race funny. Says a lot about you!

PS...his name is not "black" it's Gerald just incase you want to look it up.

*technical

sorry I need to brush up on my typoneese

in response to Scrotch

Feel free to laugh.... I did...lol

in response to c_v_the_sequel

Don't worry... it may take me a minute to figure it out but I do ignore ignorance. Thanks... trust me I won't be indulging him/her again. Usually when you stop paying people like that any attention, they go away. So I will pay him/her no never mind again.

oh please - neither do you Scrotch. you shadowed SCRATCH forever, and now all you do is poke fun at captain leo. how is that constructive. everyone on here thinks you are NXS with a different screen name - so how does that make you any different from consitor ? you're just angry because someone gave you EXACTLY what you enjoy dishing out .

thank you for proving my point

see - you just proved me right again...the fact that you are YET AGAIN referencing what you ASSUME to be my size ( dress size 4, thank you - but i already told you that when you were going by NXS ) see- you need new material in order to remain incognito...you keep giving yourself away - you make it so easy. LOL- same old, same old. And apparently you care- or you wouldnt be so upset about it...tsk tsk - name calling again?? why you're nothing more than a sad little bully !
so - getting yet another new moniker, huh? good luck with that lol

and how would you know what I am like in real life ? you have no CLUE as to who i am in real life...unless you are a stalker off line as well...you been shadowing me in real life like you did Scratch and Leo on here ? you take this stuff WAY too seriously

ROFL !

lol- no sweetie - thats you !

LOL- all you EVER do is repeat yourself and others - you just took my own words are reworked them to suit your own purposes. Shrinks call that sociopathic tendencies.
on every single thread it's the same tired crap ! you are weight obsessed...you cant think of a witty rejoinder so you call people fat or maybe it's because YOU"RE so overweight that the only way you will ever be ok with it is to poke fun at other people. *I* didnt make you fat, so get over it. Honestly - if you cant think of anything better than that - just give up.

Were there comments deleted?
