Helpful boater ends standoff in Hartwell Lake

STORY TOOLS

— Anderson County emergency workers got help from a boater when a woman refused medical help and swam into Hartwell Lake.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on S.C. 24 and Hattons Ford Road, a 49-year-old Townville woman was “acting in a peculiar manner” and suffering from reported mental health issues.

The woman attempted to flee by entering the lake and taunting officials by “calling to us to come in and get her,” the report states.

After the boater assisted in her retrieval, the woman was taken to AnMed Health for mental health treatment, according to the same report.
